Regretably Ireland like most other countries has its share of criminals and vandals, if you follow the guidelines set out below, they will help you to have a trouble free holiday. They are endorsed by (An Garda Síochána) the Southern Irish police force and the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) Things to Do. When booking accomodation particurarly in a city ask about secure off street parking. If you are driving a hire car you will be held responsible for any damage to the bodywork caused by vandilism. Always use a handbag or shoulder bag that can be held securely, be particurly careful of your mobile phone, cash and credit cards. In crowded streets and gatherings always be aware of the possibilty of pickpockets. When visiting citys or towns, always park your car in a controlled car parks and retain the parking ticket on your person. Always lock your car securely when leaving it unattended, even for a short period. Things Not to Do. Don't leave luggage, valuables cameras etc on view inside a parked car, or luggage attached to a roof rack, put anything of value in the boot. (Trunk) Don't carry large amounts cash or your passport on your person or leave them in your room. Most hotels and guest houses will have a safe or secure area to keep these items. Don't give money to children or people begging, Ireland both north and south have an adaquate social security system. Never leave your car with the keys in the ignition when paying for fuel etc. If you are camping don't pitch tents or camp in unapproved sites, or public areas, camp only on approved camp sites.
