The development
of the farm tractor and particularly the three point linkage system
where an implement can be raised or lowered using hydraulic power,
owes much to Harry Ferguson
a farmers son form County Down,
Fordson tractor
at Mill Farm Tollymore near Newcastle
County Down, this is one of the early petrol Fordson's, this one
is fitted with iron wheels some times called spade lugs.
It is driven by Margaret Holmes while her
father George Holmes makes adjustments to the trailed plough.
These early tractors were simply draught
vehicles, although they could be fitted with a flat pulley to
drive a thresher or other stationary implement. |
