This is a pilgrimage centre which grew from an apparition of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and John the Evangelist, claimed to have been seen by a group of villagers in August 1879.

Museums in Straide.

 
The Micheal Davitt Museum.
 

The Michael Davitt Museumhoused in the restored pre penal church in the village of Straide. Michael Davitt was christened in this church in 1846 and is buried in the grounds of the 13th Century Straide Abbey, beside the Museum.

The museum has an audio visual display, it also contains an extensive collection of documents, photos, Land Acts, letters, postcards, posters and other items relating to Davitt's life.
