The town of Kingscourt in located the south-east corner of County Cavan near the borders of Counties Monathan and Meath, it probably takes its name from a nearby forest park 'Dun na Rí' (Fort of the King) The park is popular with locals and visitors alike, it is home to a surprising variety of wildlife including hare, mink, rabbit, red and grey squirrel and otter, the latter making their home in the banks of the River Cabra which flows through the park. There are several pleasant walks through the park, from a vantage point in a clearing you can enjoy panoramic views to the Mourne Mountains in County Down and Slieve Gullion in Armagh.

Kingscourt would make an excellent base for a fishing holiday, as of course could be said of most of Cavan's towns. Two notable lakes close to Kingscourt are Ervey and Greaghlone, both of which have been stocked with various species of coarse fish.

The town bustles with activity, it boasts a four star hotel, with many quality guest houses in the locality. The Catholic Church dominates the town from its location on a high ridge, this fine building has some excellent stained glass windows by the celebrated exponent of the art Evie Hone.

The golfing entheuast can spend a pleasent afternoon in beautiful surroundings on the town's nine hole golf course. For those looking for a golfing holiday in luxurious surroundings Cabra Castle would be the obvious choice.

Tradition is kept alive not far from Kingscourt at Muff Rock, there each year in August a horse fair takes place, this fair is said to date back to prehistoric times.
