Down Recorder

The Down Recorder is one of Northern Ireland’s oldest newspapers with a history dating back to 1836.

The Down Recorder circulates from Comber in the north of County Down to Newcastle in the South, and from Lisburn in the west to the Ards Peninsula in the east. It is the best-selling weekly newspaper in the towns and villages of Downpatrick, Ballynahinch, Saintfield, Ballygowan, Crossgar, Killyleagh, Strangford, Ardglass and Killough

It is the second best-selling weekly newspaper in Newcastle, Castlewellan, Dundrum, Clough, Killinchy, Comber and Carryduff. The Down Recorder has the strongest penetration of the Down District marketplace of any of the weekly papers circulating locally.

An average weekly readership of 68,000 means that the Down Recorder goes into 93 per cent of all local homes.

Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway

The railway was founded in 1985 with the intention of rebuilding the entire former Belfast and County Down Railway branch line to Ardglass.

However, it soon became apparent that this was an unrealistic goal and instead the railway was or is being rebuilt to Inch Abbey and Ballydugan - both of which are on the former BCDR Belfast to Newcastle main line.

The Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway is a not-for-profit society as well as a registered charity and museum. We currently have a membership of just under 200 people from all over the world. We earn our revenue from the fares we charge per trip, donations and membership subscriptions. Major restoration jobs usually required large expenditure and we try to source grant aid for these

Dunadry Inn

Today, the Mooney Hotel Group comprises of three hotel properties which are the Wellington Park Hotel, the Dunadry Hotel and Country Club and the Armagh City Hotel.

The Wellington Park Hotel was bought by the Mooney family in 1957. It opened for business as a 6 bedroom property with only one banqueting suite and was the only hotel in South Belfast. The Wellington Park Hotel underwent major re-development in the mid 60\'s and then in the late 90\'s, with the addition of further bedrooms and conference facilities.

It was not until 1984 that the Mooney family decided to invest in a second hotel, the Dunadry Hotel and Country Club in Templepatrick, which had originally been converted from a Linen Mill factory. Like the Wellington Park Hotel, the Dunadry also underwent major refurbishment and extension when in 1999 16 more bedrooms were added to the original 67, adding to the luxury and the ambience of the hotel.

It was not before 1998 that the Mooney Hotel Group was formed. The Group was created to set up a brand under which the Wellington Park Hotel and the Dunadry Hotel and Country Club would operate and from which there would be further expansion.
