Clash at Armagh. |
||
During the Whitsun celebrations, a clash took place between the Cenel nEogain (a sub dynasty of the Ui Neills) and the Ulaid their Ulster rivals. Many were killed on both sides and Aitith, king of the Ulaid was forced to pay compensation to the abbot of Armagh. This was in keeping with Irish law at the time, which stated that the payment be based on the severity of the crime. The killing of a person of high rank, resulted in a very severe fine. |
