Slade castle enjoys a beautiful setting beside a little fishing harbour on the eastern side of Hook Head, with views of the south coast to Baginbun head where the Normans landed in 1170.

It is a sixteenth century tower house with a seventeenth century residence attached.It is said were built by the Laffan family who are thought to have been merchants. Both the tower and the residence are battlemented the tower is 17 meters (fifty six feet) tall and the dwelling a littler smaller. There is no access to the castle although views of the interior can be had through the iron grilled windows.

The Laffan's were dispossed of the castle in 1641
