Castles in Wexford.

These two round towers were built in 1804 against the perceived danger of an Napoleonic invasion of Ireland via Waterford harbour.

Both have been converted into private dwellings and are not open to the public.

Little remains of this thirteenth century towered or turreted keep. It is a rectangular building with round towers at each corner. It was probably built by William Marshall or his son 'William Marshall the younger.'

The castle saw many owners until it surrendered to Cromwell in 1649, after which it came into the hands of the Donavan family. Two of the original round towers survive although not complete.

This castle was possibly built by John Rossiter in the mid 1400's. It is a fine example of a late medieval tower house and Bawn. The house rises to five stories, the Bawn wall is 7.62 Meters high and complete on three sides.

A set of steps inside the wall leads to a round turret in the north east corner and to another turret in the north west.
