This
abandoned ruin on the outskirts of Newtownstewart
was once one of the strongholds of the O'Neill's. The castle is associated
with Henry Aimbreidh O'Neill who died in 1392, it is uncertain whether
the castle dates from the fourteenth or fifteenth century.
Little is known about this particular
O'Neill, although one story has come down through the ages.
He is said to have hanged a total
of nineteen men because the refused to marry his sister, because she was
particularly ugly.
