Dun Dealgan Motte.
 

This site has been prominent in both Irish history and mythology, it consists of the remains of a late twelfth century motte and bailey erected by Bertram de Verdun on land granted by King John. It was held by Hugh de Lacy in 1210 and abandoned by him to King John who pursued him north. It was also the scene of the battle of Faughart where Edward Bruce was killed in 1318 after gaining control of a large portion of Ireland.

The site is alleged to be the birthplace of the legendary Irish hero Cuchulainn.
