Towns in County Limerick

Ardare.

The attractive village of Adare reflects some of the features of Limerick's history. It was a medieval foundation, and there are remains of a medieval castle, churches, and monasteries. The earls of Dunraven later remodeled the village, and built Adare Manor which is now a hotel. The road to Rathkeale passes through an area to which German settlers known as Palatines came in the early 1700's. In the centre of the village are two groups of thatched cottages these are almost world famous and feature on many postcards.

There is an excellent heritage centre in the village, telling the story of Ardare from the arrival of the Normans in the late 1100's until the present day. The town has several guest houses and a few self catering properties, as well as the famous Ardare Manor now a luxury hotel, situated almost in the centre of Co Limerick just 15 minutes from Limerick City and 40 minutes from Shannon Airport, this attractive village would make an ideal location from which to explore the rest of the county.
