Lough Gur has a great concentration of prehistoric remains, including wedge-tombs, foundations of huts, stone circles, standing-stones and crannógs (artificial refuge-islands in lakes). one of which is on Bolin Island. Nearby is the Lough Gur Interpretive Center where the are reconstructions of huts which would have been used by the lake dwellers.
