(Nuadhat's plain.) This was the first seminary for the education of Catholic priests in post Reformist Ireland. It was founded and endowed by the Irish Parliament in 1795 as the Royal collage of St. Patrick. The original building was Stoyte House built in the later part of the eighteenth century and sold to the college, at the time of its founding. Behind it is the Long Corridor added as a dormitory between 1796 - 98 and later enlarged. West of this is St. Joseph's square, beside which is Dunboyne House begun in 1814. Saint Patrick's house on the west was built in the nineteenth century by the great Victorian Gothic Revival architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin.
