Ballitore Library & Quaker Museum.
 

Ballitore has the distinction of being the only village in Europe created by the Quakers.

The museum is located in the former home of Mary Leadbeater. The house has recently been restored, and houses a collection of Quaker memorabilia and costumes. As well as the general folklore of the area.

 

 

Athy Heritage Museum.
 

This heritage centre is the only one in Ireland devoted to polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

Highlight of this centre must surely be the beautifully constructed 4.6 Meter (15 Ft) model of Shackleton's ship Endurance.

There is an audio visual display of his 1914-16 expedition. Another exhibition covers the Gordon Bennett motor race.

 

Museum's and Art Galleries in The Curragh.

 
Curragh Camp Military Museum.

This small museum situated within the camp, has displays of weapons, photographs and newspaper clippings relating to the Easter Rising of 1916, and form the period in 1922 when the camp was taken over from the British by the Free State Army.


The Chester Beatty collection of exotic swords are also on display.

 

 

Maynooth College Ecclesiastical Museum.

This small museum houses an interesting collection of Roman Catholic memorabilia including vestments, rosaries, chalices, and a collection of eighteenth century penal crosses.

Another section is dedicated to Dr Nicholas Callen (1799 - 1864) who was professor of science at the college, he was a pioneer in electrical research and inventor of the induction coil.
