Brendan the Navigator (St Brendan) established a monestary on this site in the sixth century, the present buildings consisting of three churches the earliest is the cathedral built in the 12th century with additions in the 17th century. The west doorway is a fine example of Romanesque archicutecture, in the south wall are a row of nine lancets, two effigies of ecclesiastical figures possibly Bishops dating from the late 13th century stand either side of the east window

One of the two smaller churches displays features of the late Romanesque style, the other is a 15th century structure with an interesting carving of a wyvern on one of the windows.

The site is open to the public, guided tours are available on request, wheelchair access to most of the site.

Location 10km from Tralee on the R551. (Tralee to Ballyheigue Road).
