Cobh city in County Cork, it is a seaport on the southern shore of Great Island, on Cork Harbour near Youghal. Cobh had its name changed to Queenstown after a visit by queen Victoria in 1861, it was renamed Cobh after Irish independence in 1922.

Its large natural harbour made it one of Ireland’s most important ports for transatlantic shipping, many thousands of immigrants taking their last ever glimpse of Ireland, at the commencement of a stormy Atlantic crossing. Queenstown was the last port of call of the ill fated Titanic in 1912. The liner and its lost passengers are remembered in The Titanic Trail, you can tale a guided tour of places relevant to the Titanic, and visit the derelict pier where the ill fated travelers last set foot on Ireland.

Cobh and surrounding areas are richly endowed with heritage sights, for the golf enthusiasts there are many excellent courses to choose from. Fishing on the sheltered confines of the harbour is reputed to be superb, and if you want to venture out to sea, there are charter boats which will take you fishing on the wreck of the Lusitania.
