Oisin was a mythological figure in ancient Irish literature and contemporary folklore. In these stories he had many adventures in the company of Fion. He was lured to 'Tir na nOg' the land of eternal youth, for several centuries by Niamh Cinn Oir, on his return he met St. Patrick and the discussion they are thought to have had, symbolized the coming together of the Christian and Pagan traditions of Ireland. Mountsandel

Mountsandel is one of the oldest known human settlements in Ireland, it is thought that hunter gatherers inhabited the site some time before 7,000 BC. The site which covers an area of 21.2 hectares is open from dawn to dusk, it consists of mature mixed woodland overlooking the river Bann. Pleasant walks take the visitor to the high point of the fort to the banks of the Bann.
