The image below shows a massive plate rolling machine, this was used to curve flat sheets of steel used to plate the ship hulls. This machine was built by Hugh Smith & Co a UK based company who specialized in plate forming machinery. It appears the plate rollers are no longer at the shipyard, (July 2008) they have been sold to as far as I understand to Korea. We can probably look forward to the dry dock which is currently quite busy servicing the offshore wind farm industry becoming a heritage duck pond. In The Thompson Dock.
